Vaman:
Vaman is one of the five therapies of Ayurvedic Panchakarms. Vaman refers to therapeutic vomiting which is done through medicated emesis. This treatment is done to reduce aggravated kapha dosha and dislodges toxins from the respiratory, gastrointestinal tract and all over body. This is a therapy done for curative and preventive purposes.
Vaman karma is carried out in three stages.
- 1 poorva karma ( pre procedure/ snehpan)
- 2 pradhan karma ( main procedure)
- 3 paschyat karma (post procedure)
- Poorva Karma: In poorva karma medicated ghee is given to the patient in increasing order. massage & steam is also given to the patient.
- Pradhan karma: In pradhaan karma medical decoction is administered to the patient which helps to expel out the kapha dosha from the body.
- Paschyat Karma: In paschyat karma patient is adviced to take light diet for 3-5 days. Diet is increased gradually.

Virechan:
Virechan is one of the karma from panchkarma therapies where in purgation is induced by drugs . It specifically aims at the elimination of excessive pitaa dosha from the body.. It eliminates body toxins like vitiated ‘Pitta’. The process of cleansing is carried out in the small intestine & other Pitta sthan in body. Here drugs that stimulate bowel movement are increased for the expulsion of doshas through rectum.

Basti:
Basti is one of the most powerful of all the main five procedures of Panchkarma. Charaka, as well as many other Ayurvedic scholars have unanimously praised the features of Basti. Basti is said to be equal to half of all the Ayurvedic treatments. Basti is the introduction of herbal decoctions and medicated oils into the colon through the rectum. While it directly affects the colon, it is not a localized or symptomatic treatment. It is a highly specialized procedure aimed to achieve a therapeutic goal and must be carried out in hospital settings by an expert.

Nasya:-
Nasya refers to administering ayurvedic medications through the nasal cavity to clear complications in the ear, nose, throat, and head. It cleanses the entire region and relieves the body from conditions such as migraine, sinusitis, and anxiety, with almost no side effects. It is a critical part of the panchakarma treatment and, when performed by Ayurveda experts, it is extremely effective in bringing back the vata–pitta–kapha balance of the body.

Raktamokshan :-
The term Raktamokshana is derived from the Sanskrit word “Rakta”, which means blood, and “Moksha”, which means liberation. This treatment involves a process where impure blood is released from one’s body. It is believed that India’s legendary surgeon Sushruta had massively contributed to this Ayurvedic treatment. Raktamokshana is an effective blood purification therapy that decreases an increased level of Pitha Dosha as well Vataa and Kapha also,. Raktamokshan is generally of two types

Shirodhara therapy :-
As per Ayurveda, Shirodhara is specifically advised when there is an aggravation of Vata and Pitta Doshas in the mind and body. An augmentation of Vata dosha results in insomnia, racing thoughts, anxiety, stress, dryness, hair fall, pain, and aches, whereas an aggravated Pitta dosha causes anger, irritability, frustration, burning sensation, migraines, and premature greying of the hair. Shirodhara is said to be beneficial when these Vata and Pitta imbalances create the above concerns.
In Ayurveda, Shirodhara is traditionally done as a part of the Panchakarma cleansing process; however, it is effortlessly effective as a standalone therapy as well.
- Tailadhara –In Tailadhara, Ayurvedic practitioners advise the use of herbal oils by mixing them with herbal extracts or different essential oils. This is beneficial for balancing the Vata dosha in the body.
- Takradhara –Takra Dhara uses buttermilk infused with special herbs. It is beneficial for balancing the Pitta dosha and helps maintain homeostasis, which is the body’s ability to maintain internal stability despite changes in external conditions.
- Ksheer Dhara –Ksheer Dhara uses milk infused with herbs. The medicated milk is poured over the head and it is helpful in Vata and Pitta’s predominant headaches, stress, and anxiety, and helps nourish and relax the body.
- Kwathdhara –Decoctions made with different herbs are used in Kwathdhara. It helps in balancing Vata and Kapha dosha and is considered therapeutic for various other conditions as well.
- Jala Dhara: In Jala Dhara, Coconut water or normal water is used. It is mainly suggested in cases of ailments due to excess heat in the body.

AkshiTarpan :-
also known as NetraTarpan is the best therapy to improve your eyesight and vision.
This is a procedure in which medicated or plain unctuous substances like Ghrita are retained over the eyeball for a prescribed period of time as either a preventive or curative treatment modality. It is aimed at providing nourishment and improving the efficiency of the eyes. This procedure is popularly called as Kriyakalpa for eye diseases in Ayurveda, Kriyakalpa literally means treatment.
The eyes are the windows to the soul and one of the main sites of pitta dosha called alocha. The shastika shali rice is cooked in medicated decoction & Milk, then the bolus of rice is tied in cloth bags (potalis). These potalis are soaked for few minutes in above milk & then applied to the whole body.

Pizhichil:-
(literally meaning squeezing) is a unique Ayurvedic therapy from Kerala. In this treatment, a special linen cloth is dipped into warm Kuzhambu, or a medicated oil mixture, and squeezed over the disease-affected areas of the patient. While simultaneously massaging those areas, care is taken to ensure no portion is missed out. Pizhichil is a perfect mix of Snehana (Oleation Therapy) and Swedana (Sudation Therapy).
This treatment improves blood circulation and immunity. It is very effective in the treatment of ailments like muscle cramps, paralysis, rheumatic diseases, arthritis, neurological disorders, and blood pressure issues.
Pizhichil is a treatment which combines two therapies Snehana and Swedhana. Snehana meaning oil massage and Swedhana meaning to induce sweat. In Sanskrit, Pizhichil means ‘to squeeze’. NADI SWEDANA

Hriday Basti :
A caring art for heart! It is also called as ‘URO Basti’. The medicated oil is retained on the chest wall which gives a positive influence on the heart chakra which in turn has a beneficial effect on the mind and gives strengthening effect to the heart muscle. Post Procedure of Kati Basti
- After the Kati Basti, the patient is advised to take rest for about 15 minutes in a supine position.
- After therapy general care advice is given to patients after each session to avoid complications and to maximize the benefit of the therapy.
- Patients are advised to Have light meals and rest for the remainder of the day.
- Lukewarm bath 1-2 hour after the therapy
- Avoid exercise for the day.

Bashpa Swedana consists of applying herbalised steam evenly to your body as you sit comfortably in a steam box. With this method, your body can be fully steamed while your head remains cool. In Ayurveda, it is believed that the eyes and head should be protected from overheating.
This treatment often follows a massage to further relax your body, reducing pain and stiffness.

If the skin is oily and sensitive it is kapha pitta skin. So the treatment varies according to the dosha predominance.
Janu Basti
- Janu Basti means a treatment in which medicated oils are poured and pooled for a fixed duration of time in a compartment or a cabin constructed around the knee joint / joints using wet flour of black gram.
- In simple words, Janu Basti is pain relieving oil-pooling treatment conducted for knee pain caused due to many causes
- Janu basti is one of the upakarma (sub-type) of Panchakarma. The word janu refers to knees and Basti stands for container or retaining something inside mainly the medicated oil.This procedure is done in order to strengthen the knee architecture i.e muscles, joints and improvise the functions of knee joint thereby preventing it from further degenerative changes.
